Well I guess I can give it a shot

March 21st, 2008

Hello everyone, I finally became bored enough to give this a shot. Now the question is where to begin…..hmmm there isn’t much to say really, I’m still doing the same old same old. The never ending combo of school and work and keeping up a social life.

I’ve tried asking friends around where i can find an open mic night to play some solo acoustic stuff, to no avail so far. Most of the places around either are paid gigs, require a demo CD to listen to first, or are jazz places or something not in my standard realm musically. I’ll load up some bits I’ve recorded and stuff like that on here so you all can listen.

OK here is one I recorded a couple weeks ago. an unfinished instrumental

That reminds me, you all need to check out Andy Mckee. www.andymckee.com is his website.Go listen to some of his stuff under the media section, its awesome! His song Rylynn is my current project song. And it is kicking my butt so far.

And now to catch up on things I’ve procrastinated on: Jenna tagged me something like 6 months ago to do some “6 facts about me” dealy so I guess I’ll fill that out:

6 little known things about me:

1) My love of music is nearly an obsession, I listen to music probably 3+ hours a day and days where I never get to play anything I inheriently don’t enjoy on a fundamental level. If someone said I had to be either blind or deaf I’d pick blind in a second.

2) Due to my love of music I have an annoyingly accurate aural memory. I can tell you a song I know not only in a couple of notes, but by the quality of sound aka: depending on the song i can get it in 1 note just by how distinct the instruments sound is (an example would be Comfortably Numb by pink floyd. I can tell you it in that first note because the bass has such a distinct tone) This ability lends itself to music well, because I can also pick out melodies quickly after only hearing it a few times, or once if I’m lucky. It also helps just verbally, if something is interesting or funny to me i can memorize it after hearing it just once. This rocks in school or quoting movies.

3) I hate fish. Despise it, disdain it, and abhorr it. I’ve never found one palatable to me.But I’ll give a new type a try almost every time. I wish i did like it, because I know how healthy it is and alot of my friends absolutely *LOVE* suishi. This lends itself to me sitting with them eating soy beans sullenly and maybe picking a california roll off their plates if im starving.

4) I almost never get nervous. Fear is just not one of my go to reactions. I just do not get the physiological signs of stress unless something is SERIOUSLY happening. Public speaking or performing? Nope. Nada. never had stage fright except once when playing guitar to a packed Plummer auditorium (about ~800 people I estimate) I had some butterflies and discovered I had sweat glands on my fingertips . Bear attacked our campground in the Eastern Sierras when I was around 12? Slept peacefully every night. Finals coming up and I know i’m screwed unless I cram a certain, virtually impossible, amount? I’ll sleep like a baby. I might as well be rested and ready and screwed than have bloodshot eyes and be so tired my brain doesn’t function fully.

5) I am a serious procrastinator. Not just your run of the mill “oh crap thats deadline is coming up.” Few can relate to my almost sick level of slacking. No you don’t have a clue what I am talking about, you do not relate. If you can I feel sorry for you almost. I have had serious compounding issues just because I cannot bring myself to do something until I am ready to do it. I have sat there and analytically looked at what my lack of action will do down the road and told myself “Come on Jared, do this little thing now and you wont suffer X penalty. You have free time to do it, so do it” and I’ll still wait and then have to pay for it.

6) I am awesome. Thats all, I couldn’t think of a 6th thing that few people know about me, so I thought I’d post something that EVERYONE knows about me. I. Am. Awesome.
